Cabinet approval has been granted to a proposal made by Port and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando to allocate Rs. 5 billion for the continuation of project implemented by the Government fulfilling a pledge made by the President in his “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” policy document to develop 100,000 km highways of the country, Co-cabinet Spokesman Plantation Industries and Export Agriculture Minister Dr Ramesh Pathirana said.
Speaking at the cabinet media briefing yesterday at the Government Information Department, Dr Pathirana said that the Cabinet also approved another proposal made by Port and Highways Minister to start the construction of eight bridges as the first phase of the project implemented with the financial assistance of Kuwait Fund for Economic Development.
Cabinet of Ministers also approved proposal made by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister of Water Supply and Drainage to allocate Rs 2 billion for a booster pump house to enhance the water capacity of Ambathale water pumping Station.
